“In the first moment of seeing something, before the mind can rationalize what we’re looking at, it is in that moment that we experience a sense of wonder. As the mind rationalizes and deciphers what we see, the wonder and curiosity wane. The older we get, the more we lose that childlike curiosity and sense of awe. Art can provide an opportunity to get in touch with that again.

I discovered surrealism at a young age, and was captivated by the union of highly refined artwork and what seemed to be completely absurd and abstract. These elements seemed to force my mind into a deep and ponderous state. And I loved that feeling.

Throughout history, art has served numerous societal functions. In the age of information, where it seems all the answers are at our fingertips, I cannot think of a higher purpose for art than to reconnect ourselves with a sense of wonder and awe.”
